Jimi Hendrix, Scotland, Cold, Bright and Still, Early Morning, 16th April 1967
We looked out over the glistening plain
Heard the sound of a sparrow’s footfall
We knew we would not pass by here again
We knew we would never more come to here at all
And yet to gain by inference
That last note’s song warbled clear
By his guitar on that fond day
To hear again we could not bear
We stood upon the plain so gaunt
Where sheep’s footfall had softly trod
And found a song we couldn’t vaunt
To hear it from his lightning rod
The crowd stood transfixed and still
As Hendrix’s guitar played shrill
And we watched the sun rise so slow
Over the hill came the sun so low
